Staying at Monteverdi

Staying at Monteverdi is to go back in time as estates of this size in Italy are now rare: this large, beautiful property offers several accommodation options in comfortable Tuscan houses and cottages, combining traditional style with modern comfort. The Savelli family who owns the estate reside in the borgo for part of the year, and much of the accommodation is available all year-round.

The estate is also run by a large friendly staff, many of whom were born and brought up here. Monteverdi provides various options for holidaying guests, from small cottage-flats to larger farmhouses, and occasionally, rooms in the Villa Padronale (the late 15th century Tuscan manor house which was the seat of the marquessate of Paganico), and is well positioned to explore the Maremma coastline and her unspoilt beaches, the wine producing areas like Brunello and Chianti, and many cultural cities and sites like Siena, Montalcino, Pienza and much more.

The main house will soon be open to guests: the rooms are traditionally furnished and comfortable and come in doubles, twins and singles, some ensuite and some with shared bathrooms. The house itself is interesting, combining Tuscan, English and Orientalist influences reflecting the lives of past and current owners.

There are a number of houses and cottage-flats that have been done up for the purpose of short lets, though longer rentals are possible too. (The properties are let in their entirety, and ideal for families).  In the summer months the two swimming pools are opened and guests are invited to use them. There is wifi in most of the borgo (thick walls permitting), and owners and staff are at hand should you need anything.

La Villa Padronale

The imposing and historic Villa Padronale, dating back to the 15th Century, is steeped in local history, surrounded by lovely gardens and views, and will soon be open to guests for short stays.

The rooms are traditionally furnished, comfortable and come in doubles, twins and singles, some ensuite and some with shared bathrooms. The house itself is interesting, combining Tuscan, English and Orientalist influences reflecting the lives of past and current owners.

The villa stands around a central courtyard on top of the hill in the centre of the borgo, with commanding views towards Brunello’s vineyards, Monte Amiata’s peak and the rolling hills along the Valle del Ombrone River.
